Why is this festival called The EYEs Have IT?

The answer is simple.  We do an on-line photo contest each year that is open to all Vendors, Instructors, and performers.  Photos are Just of the Eyes. So much emotion can be expressed through the eyes.

We look for that Emotion, Strength, Drama, or just plan Beauty!  Photos are judged by the other festival participants, not the public. The winner is then chosen by Aberrant Belly Dance from the 10 finalists. The winner is featured on the EYEs banner cover of the program for the new festival and will be the "EYEs " on all the fliers, posters and social media sources for the coming year to advertise for next year's The EYEs Have IT!

Michelle Byus & Janet Overbey

Co-Directors of Aberrant Belly Dance. Michelle is the Event Coordinator and Janet is the Treasurer.

Friends since childhood, Michelle and Janet both fell in love with belly dance, though it was years apart. Once they decided to start practicing what they each knew, everything belly dance fell into place: teaching classes, hosting Haflas, shopping, making costumes and of coarse... creating the first Fusion Belly Dance Festival in Merced Ca.

John our drummer and friend
John

John now lives in Baltimore MD! He is flying in just for our festival! You see why we say John is Aberrant's Drummer, our number one student as well as a valued volunteer.! He is always up for a trip to belly dance festivals and anything music related. John is Aberrant 's best Friend!

Kayla

Kayla is a very dear friend of Aberrant BellyDance.  She is a constant volunteer and is always will to help how ever she can.  She is a single mother of a beautiful 4 year old daughter

A week after our festival last year, Kayla became very ill and was rushed to the hospital. After an emergency MRI, it was revealed that she had a brain tumor.  It was larger then what the local hospital could handle and was airlifted to Modesto and then a second time to Davis. Davis MRI showed a tumor the size of a Grapefruit! Her and her Parents were then told that the tumor was a result of the radiation that was used on Kayla when she was 3 years old to cure her childhood Leukemia.

Kayla underwent emergency brain surgery March 2018 to remove the tumor.  The Surgery was successful but 2% had to be left due to its location.  Kayla couldn't walk and lost movement of her left arm for a while, but due to hard work and determination and the will to care for her (then 3 year old) daughter,  she has regained both! It has unfortunately, left her with permanently lost vision in her left eye and short term memory loss.               Kayla has to travel to SF every 3 months for an MRI to monitor the growth of the 2% that was left of the tumor.  As of the last MRI at the beginning of March there has been NO GROWTH!  Radiation has been postponed until needed!
